Mr Atul Bhatt, the principal and Ms. Jyotin Prinja, the ISA Coordinator and Head of English Faculty attended the ISA Award Function at Leela Ambience, New Delhi. Shalom Hills International School, under the creative and inspirational leadership of Dr Lilly George, the Founder-Managing Director, is known for its varied and ingeniously planned Student Engagement and Empowerment initiatives. As part of its ISA Action Plan, the school initialized many 'out-of-the-box' collaborative and inhouse projects which were carried out in collaboration with Dubai and Nepal schools. The inventively planned and finely executed activities won the school a lot of approbation from British Council and the coveted International School Award for 3 consecutive years 2016-19. The principal and ISA Coordinator accepted the ISA AWARD on the behalf of their school in a glittering high-voltage ceremony attended by delegates from almost 122 schools across North India and East India.
A glittering Awards Ceremony was held on 9th January, 2016 at Hotel Pullman, New Delhi by Parakh Foundation. Nearly 800 schools from Delhi & NCR had registered for the award but finally a chosen few schools were awarded in 20 different categories.
Shalom Hills International School has been awarded the “SIRIUS PLANETARIUM SCHOOL AWARD” for the outstanding Planetarium and Astronomic activities carried out in the school. A Sustainable School Award ceremony was hosted by Shalom Hills International School in collaboration with Eco Slate and was attended by delegates from 14 schools of Gurgaon. The award ceremony began with the Lord 's Prayer and welcome address. The Founder-Managing Director, Dr Lilly George had sent her blessings and best wishes for the occasion. A special message of the M.D ma'am was read aloud by the principal, Ms. Ritu Mehta. In her welcome address, Ms. Mehta made a particular mention of how schools need to collaborate and work in unison to promote and bring about an ecologically rich and diverse world. The function was graced by the chief guests Vice Chairman and Director of Shalom Group of Schools who were welcomed with a special green offering of a sapling. They were felicitated with the Sustainable School Award by Mr. Mohan, Head-Climate Miles and Mr. Rohit, Founder-I Dream.
A video-presentation encapsulating the vision of the school's Founder-Managing Director to set up a green work and work for a green, prosperous world was presented before the gathering. Video snapshots showed how Dr. Lilly George had believed in her dream even when confronted with the barren land, a brown plot infested and inhabited with cattle and stray dogs. The video presentation tellingly captured the journey of how the erstwhile brown land was converted into green space in midst of which the school now stands lofty and proud. The guests and students cheered loudly when told about the special achievement of the senior Shalomites in reaching the Quarter - Final round of Scholar's World Cup slated to take place in Singapore in the near future.
Ms. Jalpa Shah elucidated upon the school's Green School programme and made a special mention of the pioneering measures introduced by the school management by way of sustainable and eco-friendly measures. Ms. Jalpa also gave a rundown of the Green School Development programme in which setting up of paper recycling unit, remapping of bus routes, paper saving and waste reduction measures have been approved and will take off shortly.
Abhilasha and Aditya, two students of Grades XI & VIII who have been keenly involved in the Green School Programme shared their learning experiences and outcomes with the gathering. After a short tea-break, an extremely engaging session began in which Mr. Mohan of Climates Miles shared the urgent need to redress the problems of climatic changes and its ominous portents. The session conducted by him on action and solution based sustainability was highly interactive and drew animated insights from the delegates. Mr. Rohit of I-dream engaged the participating teachers in games to re-inforce the 3 aspects of sustainability - Need, Choice and Survival. After the vote of thanks and refreshments, saplings were given to all the teachers.
